This past weekend, Creating Together brought families, local artists, musicians, and authors together for a joyful and engaging community event, all made possible through a generous grant from the Saratoga Arts Grant Program and the hospitality of Whitman Brewing Company.
A Special Moment with My Son, Matthew
One of the highlights of the event for me was having my son, Matthew, join us for a reading of my children's book, Brianna’s Brave Day at School. As many of you know, this book was inspired by a real-life moment from his school experience, and seeing him there as I read it aloud to families made the event even more special.
Bringing Modern Adoption Conversations Into Everyday Spaces
At SoulFilling, one of my biggest goals is to make modern adoption conversations more mainstream, not by making adoption the focus of every event, but by integrating it into organic, everyday spaces where people naturally gather. Adoption doesn’t have to be a separate conversation, it can be part of casual moments with families, books, art, and community gatherings like this one.
Highlights from the Event
🎶 Live music by Billboard-charting singer-songwriter Cassandra Kibinski – A wonderful, interactive way to bring families together through song.
📚 Book readings with Vicki Addesso Dodd & Sean Martin of Saratoga Springs Publishing Company – Featuring a variety of stories for families to enjoy.
📖 Author Reading: I had the chance to share my children’s book, Brianna’s Brave Day at School, and bring adoption conversations into a fun and relatable setting.
✍️ Thank You Card Writing with Ashley Campbell, Founder of Coral & Blue – Encouraging creativity and gratitude through beautifully designed stationery for kids.
📷 Special Guest: Longshot the Moose who added a little extra fun for the kids!
🍽️ Food & Bar Open at Whitman Brewing & Walt Café – A great space for parents to relax while kids participated in creative activities.
A Heartfelt Thank You
A huge thank you to the Saratoga Arts Grant Program for making this event possible, to Whitman Brewing Company for providing a wonderful space, and to all the incredible artists, authors, and families who joined us.
This event was a great reminder that modern adoption conversations can happen naturally in the spaces where families gather, whether through books, music, or simple, everyday conversations.
I’m looking forward to more community events like this, where we can continue to connect, share experiences, and bring adoption conversations into the everyday moments that bring people together.
